This book includes 100 Bits of terrain description, small pieces which can be stuck in anywhere a little description is needed, and numbered so they can be used randomly. Each Bit is also provided in index card format for ease of use by Game Masters. Sixty other pieces portray special features or the variations of seasons and weather. Several scenes are depicted in the original interior art of the Carmona Brothers. In addition, we have again included terrain "Kits," which can help you make distinctive types of mountains in your world.

All the interesting details are indexed so a GM can easily find a description to fit a particular need. We have also included a text-only version which can be used to cut and paste directly into your GM notes or sized into a large print version for those who prefer larger type.

An excerpt from Bits of the Wilderness: Into the Mountains:

80. The trail comes out of the forest to cross a cliff face. It follows a narrow ledge, probably not completely natural, which winds along the middle of the cliff face. Beside you the mountain slopes away, dropping hundreds of yards [meters]. The treetops below are indistinct beneath small white clouds. No plants grow on that sheer slope. If you slipped, you would fall through space for several heartbeats before hitting the pines below. The trail is wide enough for a pack-carrying human to walk easily, but terribly bare, with no plants or big solid rocks between you and the bottom far below. Above, the cliff is as steep as it is below: treeless cold dark stone with a few small cracks and irregularities. The cold wind tugs at you and the gravel of the path crunches underfoot.
